Patient Care & Services
We practice a variety of chiropractic methods here, at Champion. Our goal is to provide our patients with the techniques and modalities needed to resolve particular problems and achieve optimal health.
Chiropractic adjustments are primarily performed at Champion Health using a hands on approach, but in some instances instrument assisted manipulations may be used as well.
The reason for performing an adjustment is to improve joint mobility (motion) or free up areas of restricted mobility within the joints of the spine and extremities. This lack of motion within a joint can lead to various issues ranging from painful movement patterns, dysfunctional movement patterns and altered nervous system activity.
The adjustment can be performed using various techniques. This can range from the quick, low impulse thrusts, that most people associate with chiropractic, to specific tables and instrument assisted adjustments. Every patient at Champion Health is unique and because of this, not everyone receives or needs the same types of adjustments. By applying these specific adjustments to the joints of the body this allows for improved biomechanics, improved movement capacity of the body and usually decreased pain.
Our clinical care entails thorough examination by our doctors; to find the problem and resolve it. We provide the best in chiropractic care techniques, Active Release Techniques® soft tissue treatment, and supplementary modalities.
While patients often express concern about being tied to chiropractic care for long periods of time, Champion Health is dedicated to treating patients reach their desired 100% performance only. Patients are never pressured into unnecessary maintenance, but are welcomed back for follow-up care whenever needed.
The tremendous potential, safety, value, and effectiveness of chiropractic treatment are widely proven to meet a range of medical concerns and healthcare challenges.
Following are excerpts from leading chiropractic studies.
In Comparison to Other Treatment Alternatives
“Acute and chronic chiropractic patients experienced better outcomes in pain, functional disability, and patient satisfaction; clinically important differences in pain and disability improvement were found for chronic patients.”
– Haas et al. Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. 2005
Popularity of Chiropractic
“Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions. CAM patient surveys show that chiropractors are used more often than any other alternative provider group and patient satisfaction with chiropractic care is very high. There is steadily increasing patient use of chiropractic in the United States, which has tripled in the past two decades.”
– Meeker, Haldeman. Annals of Internal Medicine. 2002
“Chiropractic patients were found to be more satisfied with their back care providers after four weeks of treatment than were medical patients. Results from observational studies suggested that back pain patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than with medical care. Additionally, studies conclude that patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than they were with physical therapy after six weeks.”
— Hertzman-Miller et al. American Journal of Public Health. 2002
Active Release Techniques®
ART® is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART®. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
Champion Health is the foundation of Active Release Techniques’® Corporate Solutions program. ART Corporate Solutions® is the ground-breaking concept that corporations, both large and small, can actively reduce the lost time and expense of workplace injury by treating the problem before it becomes recordable. We do this by providing soft tissue injury care on site for employees with repetitive and cumulative soft tissue injury. By doing this before the injury causes lost time and a doctor’s visit, we help the employee eliminate their pain and learn how to prevent it in the future. The very first corporation we worked with in Colorado Springs saved nearly $800,000 in one year, in comparison of their prior year’s records.
Champion Health Associates is proud to be the “birthplace” and fountainhead of ART® for the world.
When you come to Champion Health, you are getting the best of the technique from the founder and the people who help him teach it to the world!
Light Therapy, a revolutionary companion for soft tissue treatment and other procedures, uses LED light therapy in the red and infrared spectrums to stimulate the body’s ability to heal. Not only that, it eases pain, lessens recovery time, treats acne, and more!
So what differentiates our machine from all the others? Our Light Therapy combines the latest advancements in bioengineering with over 30 years of experience by Dr. P. Michael Leahy in the field of soft tissue repair. It has been specifically designed to assist with:
- Soft tissue treatment
- Bone and joint injuries
- Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic joint pain
- Strains, sprains, and tendonitis
ArthroStim® is a mechanical adjusting device that allows our doctors to provide very specific and gentle adjustments using the body’s own somatomotor rhythm.
Flexion-Distraction is a unique form of therapy that offers flexion in combination with axial distraction. This form of therapy is an excellent choice for the person suffering from disc pathologies. Flexion Distraction utilizes a special table that helps the chiropractor to treat low back injuries, back pain, sciatica, herniated disc, and leg pain. This gentle and safe treatment helps to restore mobility to the lumbar spine, decrease disc pressure, decrease pressure on nerves, improve posture, and relieve back pain. Flexion Distraction Technique feels amazing and does not involve any quick movements or “pop” noises.
Effects of Flexion-Distraction
Low Back Pain, Mechanism, Diagnosis, and Treatment. 7th Edition, pg.350
1. The posterior disc space increases in height
2. Flexion decreases disc protrusion and reduces stenosis.
3. Flexion stretches the ligamentum flavum to reduce stenosis
4. Flexion opens the vertebral canal by 2 mm or 3.5 to 6mm.
5. Flexion increases metabolite transport into the disc.
6. Flexion opens the apopyhyseal joints and reduces posterior disc stress
7. Intradiscal pressure drops under distraction.
ART® Performance Care is a unique approach to helping you perform at your best while training and competing. Efficient movement is the key to optimum performance. When your muscles are moving fully and freely, your performance will be enhanced.
For example, the extreme demands of Ironman training and competition can damage muscle. When muscle is overused, it tends to shorten. This is a result of fibrous scar tissue, or adhesions, that build up within muscles and between muscle fibers. Normal muscle acts like a bundle of rubber bands – able to shorten and lengthen freely. When a muscle is overused, scar tissue adhesions build up.
There are four basic processes that cause scar-tissue adhesions:
1. Injuries (like tearing from a muscle pull)
2. Micro trauma (the accumulation of small injuries over time)
3. Hypoxia (when a muscle doesn’t get enough oxygen, adhesions build up)
4. Excessive friction (during movement, muscles must slide against other structures, muscles, nerve, etc.)
Over time, the build-up of scar tissue adhesions will cause noticeable symptoms like pain and weakness. However, long before symptoms are felt, athletic performance is influenced – this is especially true for distance athletes.
ART® is a state-of-the-art soft tissue treatment system designed to identify and treat scar tissue adhesions. While it is the treatment of choice for injuries to muscles, tendons, nerves, etc, ART® Performance Care is unique in the healthcare industry because it allows an athlete to have his or her performance evaluated, biomechanically, and corrected through treatment. For example, a trained and certified ART® biomechanics provider will observe a runner and determine which muscles are hindering the performance. By combining this evaluation with patented ART® treatment protocols, ART® providers can treat scar tissue adhesions and help an athlete perform at his or her best.
Auto Accidents/ Personal Injury Care
A car crash is a highly stressful experience, especially when you – or your loved ones – are injured. Our doctors and staff strive to provide the best care and also to manage the cases correctly, from the start. Injuries from car crashes are often complicated and symptoms may not surface for months or even years following the incident. We specialize in management of cases, such as these, to provide our patients and their lawyers the information required to get the care necessary to restore those injured to normal life.
Chiropractic care is an effective treatment for car accident injury. Our Champion Health chiropractors will use manual adjustments, Active Release Techniques and corrective exercises to treat your car accident injures. General chiropractic care and a series of manual adjustments aid with pain management for whiplash, herniated discs and headaches. By adjusting your spine and re-aligning your neck and back, we relieve the pressure from your neck, back and head. Proper alignment can also help boost the function of your immune and digestive systems by allowing your nerves to function optimally.

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries sustained in automobile accidents. It occurs during the impact of your accident when your neck is forcibly “whipped” back and forth and side to side past its normal range of motion. Whiplash affects the muscles and soft tissues in your back and neck. You may feel stiffness, back pain and neck pain immediately or it could take days, weeks even months for your symptoms to appear. It is crucial to treat whiplash immediately even if you are not yet experiencing neck or back pain. Active Release Technique is a premier specific treatment for these soft tissue injuries and returns patients to pre-accident status as quickly as possible.
Headaches & Migraines
Headaches and migraines can be caused by whiplash, head injuries or other types of car accident injury. Headaches may appear when your neck is damaged because the stress or strain on your neck muscles can cause pain to radiate to your head. Head injuries or trauma to your head can cause headaches and migraines. If you are experiencing headaches after your car accident, then you should get treated as soon as possible so that your headache pain does not become permanent. Headaches and migraines are often the result of forward head posture which puts strain in the neck muscles causing pain in your head. By restoring proper head posture headache and neck pain may be eliminated.
Headaches can also be suggestive of a MTBI, Mild traumatic brain injury. While you may not have lost consciousness during the accident, MTBIs can often occur during motor vehicle crashes.
A herniated disc, which is another injury that can be sustained in an auto accident, occurs when a spinal disc bulges and puts pressure on the nerves in your back. A sudden jerk from a car accident can cause a disc herniation or possibly sciatica.
